When: January 28-30, 2020 Location: Asbury United Methodist Church, Livermore, CA
We are called to the ministry and anointed for service. As we answer this unique calling we experience the celebrations AND challenges of ministry in today’s America in many different ways. Bishop Carcaño calls the Orders to gather this January for a time of retreat, learning, and strengthening relationships with one another as we continue on the journey of ministry with our congregations, our communities, and our conference. In keeping with our Book of Discipline, the bishop’s invitation extends to the Orders of Clergy listed here: Elders, deacons, provisional members, commissioned members, licensed local pastors serving under appointment, retired clergy of the CA/NV Annual Conference, clergy of other annual conferences, and ministers of other denominations who are serving in the CA/NV Annual Conference.
Let’s share together, as we explore "Casting Our Nets" (John 21:1-6), which builds on our 2019 Annual Conference Session theme (In the Boat with Jesus) by inviting us to face and share the difficulties of ministry, as well as embrace and be re-energized by new perspectives and creative cooperative forms of mission and ministry. We will also engage the story from the perspective of the fish we are not catching. "Casting Our Nets" encourages us all to be caught by the Spirit of our Living God!
Bishop Minerva Carcaño will lead us in Holy Communion and also a time of sharing, as she has in past Gatherings. Through worship and workshops, small groups and new experiences, we will be reaffirmed in our covenant relationships and the endless possibility of ministry.
On Wednesday evening, we will journey to Campo Di Bocce where we will have dinner, have the opportunity to play bocce ball (lessons are available), and enjoy the fellowship of one another. We have the entire venue for the evening, including the outdoor cluster spaces around fireplaces.
This retreat is eligible for .75 CEUs under Professional Development.
Make plans now to get away in January for this special time of renewal with Bishop Carcaño and your colleagues.
